Principles of Community

We believe that science should reflect the diversity of people that makeup our society. We recognize that prejudiced policies pervade science and we pledge to draw attention to and tear down such infrastructure in order to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). We value and embrace all people, regardless of: gender identity, race, sexual orientation, disability, religion, nationality, or socio-economic background. We welcome and appreciate all individuals and their contributions to our lab community.

In order to maintain a safe and supportive environment, we will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment, racial discrimination, gender bias, or any similar action which does not fully recognize and respect the value of all humans. We expect members of this lab group to respect each other, as well as the broader scientific and community at-large. 

We pledge to actively educate ourselves and those around us on issues of diversity in STEM and to speak out against injustice and discrimination. We will provide opportunity and support to all people in our lab, in particular, those who are underrepresented in the field of marine science.
